ZUMZUMZUM- from Romania to Thailand on a bike

coming from istanbul, ankara is quite ugly.

 most of the city is new and uninteresting and the old part is dirty and derelict. Also the old quarters doubles as a huge bazaar which is not adding to the fun factor.

the road from istanbul to ankara was surprinsingly fun for a highway. The first part follows the sea shore and the rest is in the mountains with a few 1500-2000m passes.

At the first gas stop, just outside istanbul we met four guys form netherlands (one Africa Twin, one Transalp and two BMW GS’s). They were going to Mongolia. We exchanged a few impressions, they were "veterans" as on previous trips they were in India and South America. They took a look at our ginourmous luggage and said "This must be your first trip" 🙂

de data asta am avut si baterie nu numai aparat foto asa ca am cam bagat cu poze

am vazut moschei, ne-a placut cel mai tare una mica, de pe linga podul galata – Rustem Pasa Camii

am fost in topkapi, mai putin in harem ca era inchis

am intrat si in fosta rezerva de apa, actuala de peste si turisti 🙂

unde e capul meduzei?

un tur de bosfor cu barcutza, foarte tare…nu e asa de strimta cum credeam eu strimtoarea:) da’ am gasit variante de barca   pt  Doru&Greer&Chioveanu :

dar pt asta va trebuie si carnet de elicopter :), pe cind …

sau daca chiar nu va hotariti merge si :

de terasa de pe acoperis am mai spus ca-i foarte tare, dar sa vedeti si berea lui cip

azi am dat o tura cu un autobuz vitezo-frino-maniac pina la muzeul Kariye unde mai sint citeva mozaicuri bizantine foarte frumoase

si dupa muzeu am luat-o tot pe apa spre una din insulele de pe-aici -heybeliada

cam atit de pe-aici, miine mergem spre Ankara

250 boring kilometers on the “otoban” in a strong crosswind and one hour and a half in the lovely istanbul traffic and we arrived at the sultan hostel

in fact we are drinking a beer and sing the free wireless at the sultan hostel right now 🙂

the only problem is that the wireless is only working at the downstairs bar and not on the rooftop, so we can’t watch this

we don’t really have pictures from istanbul because the battery was dead 🙂

after 460 uneventful kilometers and two hours of waiting at the turkish border, we arrived in Edirne.

Lovely ottoman town

with a beatiful mosque (which was still open at 11pm).

So after all the commotions with the visas,

the endless packing lists,

moving all our stuff in the attic,

we are finally ready (or at least we think so).

so, tomorrow morning we are leaving….
