Clutch maintenance
Monday, June 25th, 2007After all the troubles with my hand, I am a little behind schedule with the bike preparations. So I ‘ve decided to get busy.
First thing, of course was to buy some new toys, namely a torque wrench and an impact driver.
I wanted to open the clutch, to measure the wear of the plates to see if they are up for the trip.
First suprise, in order to get to the clutch cover on the AT you have to remove the exhaust including the downpipes.
The silencer is quite easy to remove but the downpipes are quite a pain in the ass (let’s say 2 hours of the aforementioned pain). After that is quite easy, take off the clutch cover, pressure plate, the plates and the clutch basket.
The clutch plate bearing was a little rough so I’ve decided to change it, but the plates themselves were as good as new. The clutch basket had a few weird marks but in the opinion of the xrv.org.uk inmates they are not cracks.
So everything seems to be ok. I’ve managed to strip a bolt when reinstalling the clutch cover, but I could get it out.
Oh, and the good part of removing the exhaust is that you get to hear the AT without the silencer 🙂
